About Unmoored +
Looking for a sense of identity as an immigrant in new York, I started chasing Dutch ghosts in the Hudson valley, following Washington Irving and the Hudson Valley School through the hills. I noticed how much folklore and history in early European American art here was borrowed from older cultures to create a sense of identity for new arrivals. Thinking about that act of borrowing from the past and reactivating it in an ongoing story in the present was the starting point for making these images.
